The Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT), Connecticut Trails are a place of tranquility for all to enjoy. The project aims to provide a thirty-mile, multi-use trail that will stretch from Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk to Tarrywile Park in Danbury, traveling through Wilton, Redding and Ridgefield.
Trails
create recreational opportunities for walkers, hikers, cyclists, kids and pets.
Motorized vehicles (except for wheelchairs) and horses are prohibited from the
trails. The NRVT will promote a healthy alternative of transportation to rail
stations, schools, offices and businesses.
In 1979 the Norwalk River Masterplan Study introduced the concept of a multi-use waterfront trail surrounding the Norwalk Harbor. The first section of the Norwalk Harbor Loop (NHLT) opened at Oysterbend Condominiums in 1981. Twenty years later in 2001 the first section of the NRVT opened in Norwalk shared with the NHLT as part of the Heritage State Park connecting to the Maritime Aquarium to Matthews Park.
It
wasn’t until 2007 that the second section of the Trail shared route in Norwalk
through Matthews Park, along Route 7 to Union Park. In 2012 the routing study
was completed for a 28-mile trail from Norwalk to Danbury. Although there are
still missing links, the NRVT continues to complete loops joining Wilton,
Redding and Ridgefield. The trail is open year-round sunrise to sunset except
where posted, enjoy the trail.
