Start Seeds Indoors for Your Spring Garden
February, the end of January, is a great time to get a start on your spring garden. Start your flowers and veggies indoors so you are ready when the weather warms up. Here are 4 of my favorite flowers and pollinator plants.
Marigolds
are terrific for many reasons in your garden. They attract bees and other
pollinators, protect tomatoes, ward off nematodes, are edible, can be
dehydrated for tea and add lots of color to your vegetable and flower gardens.
Nasturtiums
make good companion plants. They are edible, attract pollinators and are a
natural pest repellant, will deter some insects and trap others. Plant with
cucumbers to improve their flavor, plant near tomatoes and peppers to repel
fungal. Colorful flowers add orange, yellow, red, and pink to your garden.
Morning
Glories are climbing vines that look fabulous. They attract butterflies and
other pollinators, and their root system helps to prevent soil erosion. They
grow on fences, trellis, and bloom all summer long. There flowers come in many colors, blue, red,
pink, multi color, purple and white.
Sunflowers
have happy faces looking up toward the sun sharing their sun power. Sunflower
seeds are edible, they can be eaten raw or roasted. They attract birds, bees,
and other pollinators. You want to be sure to plant them away from your garden,
too close and some veggies may grow poorly. They are a vibrant yellow color, offering
colors of orange and red shades that last all summer long.
These
are a few of my favorite pollinator plants and flowers. They will all brighten up any landscape,
adding color to your outdoor gardens. Please do not eat any plants without
doing your own research.
Let's garden together, I'm rooting for you.
